ELECTRICITY

March 15, 1929:   "Surveys are being made by the California-Oregon power Co. for an extension of their power line from Bly;  it is expected that Sprague River will be furnished with electricity early this summer."   (The Klamath News)

November 1, 1929:   "Electric lights for the inhabitants of Sprague River and lights and power for the Lorenz mill at the outskirts of town, will be a reality by the first of the year, as the California Oregon Power company has a crew of men at work installing the necessary connecting line.

Representatives of the company were in Sprague River several days ago signing up patrons for lights.  They met a ready and favorable response on the part of residents of this fast growing center."   (The Klamath News)

December 5, 1929:   "Twenty-three miles of line constructed in 26 working days, is the record made by the local construction crew of the California Oregon Power company, in the erection of the high tension line from Bonanza to the town of Sprague River.

Sub-stations on the Sprague River power line will be completed today.  Copco will now be able to hook up with the Lorenz mill and furnish electric service.

Residents and merchants in the town of Sprague River will also be able to hook with the distribution line, which will soon be finished.

According to reports from local officials of the power company a week or ten days will see the completion of the whole project."   (The Evening Herald)

May 17, 1930:   "A new transmission line approximately 23 miles in length has recently been constructed from Bonanza north to the town of Sprague River, Ore.  This line, a three gauge circuit, and operated for the time being at 34,000 volts, will serve the new electrically equipped mills of the Lorenz Lumber company, as well as many new residential and business customers in and about the community of Sprague River."   (The Klamath News)

July 20, 1930:   "Power lines which supply the communities of Merrill, Malin, Tule Lake, Olene, Bonanza and Sprague River with power and lights were destroyed by the fire which yesterday evening burned the Ewauna Lumber company's yards, leaving those communities without power and light last night.

The California Oregon Power company has 50 men in readiness to start work of repairing the damage, although it is doubtful if they will be able to go to work before noon Sunday because of the terrific heat.

'Residents of the towns affected may expect power and lights by Sunday night.'  H. P. Bosworth, local manager of the company, stated last night."   (The Klamath News)

July 22, 1935:   "At Sprague River the power company sub-station equipment was burned out, and service to the Crater Lake Lumber company plants was cut off.

Lightning blasted the top off a high line pole just at the south city limits, putting the line to Merrill, Malin, Sprague River and Bly out of commission for about two hours Sunday evening."   (The Evening Herald)

August 16, 1935:   "Two new transformers have been installed by Copco at the sub-station at Sprague River, replacing two smaller ones.

The work of dismantling the old transformers and installing the new ones was commenced Saturday evening with R. L. Miller, foreman, in charge.  The old transformers were returned to Klamath Falls."   (The Klamath News)
